PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reciprocating piston compressor having a small overall height and reduced friction of a piston ring in a cylinder travelling track. SOLUTION: In a reciprocating piston compressor 10 for gaseous medium especially for an automobile level adjusting equipment, the maximum turning angles 238, 240 of a piston ring longitudinal direction shaft 64, 244 in relation to a longitudinal direction shaft 220 of the cylinder travelling track 58 in piston rising motion is smaller than that in piston dropping motion.
