PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide refractory provided with heat insulating property, heat retaining property, heat resistance and light weight nature, easily forming property or safety and capable of being used as a base material for a furnace material or a sculpture and a method of forming a sculpture using the refractory. SOLUTION: The refractory is obtained by stirring and kneading 20-25wt.% clay, 15-20wt.% chamotte and 55-65wt.% sawdust, aging and firing or by stirring and kneading 20-25wt.% clay, 15-20wt.% chamotte and 55-65wt.% sawdust, aging and firing and engraving the fired refractory into a prescribed shape to form the sculpture.
