PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an induction motor capable of high-speed revolution by using massive iron for rotor core and using a passage of magnetic flux also as a path of induced current. SOLUTION: The induction motor comprises a stator and a rotor. The stator is formed by installing a ring winding which alternately penetrates the open grooves and enclosed grooves of a concentric annular laminated magnetic core having the open grooves on its outer circumferential surface and the enclosed grooves on its inner circumferential surface. The stator produces sinusoidal magnetic flux. The rotor comprises the concentric annular massive iron which is opposed to the internal surface of the stator with a gap in-between, and wherein the passage of magnetic flux is used also as the path of induced current; short circuit rings bonded to both the ends of the massive iron; and a rotary shaft fixed in a hole in the center of the concentric annular massive iron. The induction motor is driven by high-frequency power. The massive iron is obtained by subjecting the surface of low-carbon steel, low in electrical resistance and high in magnetic permeability, to spray quenching or water quenching and carrying out carburizing. For the short circuit rings, a Cu-Mo sintered alloy, low in electrical resistance and equivalent in thermal expansion coefficient to the massive iron, is used. The massive iron and short circuit rings are welded together by electron beam welding (EBW). COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
