PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize timing for readout of servo information from a disk medium by setting the output period of a servo gate signal for readout of the servo information of the disk medium dynamically. SOLUTION: A period (timing for stopping the output of a servo gate signal) when the servo signal is to be outputted is set dynamically from the ratio of a time interval between servo marks of one cycle before to a time interval between servo marks of two cycles before by a HDC 23 which is provided with a servo gate timing arithmetic circuit 41 and a servo gate signal generating circuit 44 which are provided in a magnetic disk device 1. Thus, servo information can always be read out from a magnetic disk 11 in the optimum state in a form in which influence of the eccentricity and the rotation unevenness of the magnetic disk and the long-time jitter of a reference clock, etc. is suppressed as much as possible.
