PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheet carrying device and a control method therefor, which prevent actions of extracting paper sheets as much as possible. SOLUTION: In the paper sheet carrying device 1 and a control method therefor which have a paper sheet carrying means (a paper money carrying means 4) comprising a carrying motor 11 for carrying paper sheets (paper moneys A) along a paper sheet carrying line (a paper money carrying line 2) and store the carried paper sheets in a stacker 19, operations of stopping driving of the carrying motor 11 and detecting it in this state by a paper money movement detection means 27 (an encoder 12) whether paper sheets on the paper sheet carrying line 2 are moved or not and driving the carrying motor 11 to store the paper sheets A in the stacker 19 in the case of detection of movement of paper sheets are repeated.
