PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a handheld controller which enables a user to program a selected function of a bed / mattress assembly to occur at a programmed time with some of plural buttons. SOLUTION: The handheld controller 50 is constituted to control at least one function of the bed / mattress assembly 52. The controller 50 comprises a clock to track time, and at least one button 264 which can be engaged to program at least one function of the bed / mattress assembly to occur at a programmed time. The function above comprises to vibrate at least a part of the assembly, to generate wave effect action between a head end part and a foot end part of the assembly, to articulate one section of the assembly between a first position and a second position, and to heat at least a part of the assembly.
