Methods and systems for improving trunk utilizatio for calls to ported numbers are disclosed. A methd for improving media trunk utilization for calls irected to ported numbers includes receiving a cal setup message associated with the call in a commuications network and determining whether the call etup message is directed to a ported number. In reponse to determining that the call is directed to ported number, called party information is extraced from the call setup message. A lookup is perfored in a number portability database using the calld party information to locate a routing number forthe called party. A media trunk is selected for th call based on the routing number. The call is the routed through a media gateway associated with th media trunk. |
