Asymmetrical crank mechanism for internal combustion engines of the four- or two-stroke diesel engine type and the four- or two-stroke Otto engine type comprises a connecting rod foot describing an asymmetrical (also elliptical) orbit in which the crankshaft journal bearing has a non-concentric cam-like design which, because of external forced control of e.g. an internally toothed ring, induces a changeable delayed or accelerated piston movement toward the axis of rotation of the crankshaft.
