<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide activated carbon for adsorption of arsenic, the activated carbon having higher adsorption performance of arsenic than conventional activated carbon (particularly, the adsorption performance for trivalent arsenic ion), suppressing decrease in the specific surface area of the activated carbon and carrying an arsenic adsorbent in the pores of the activated carbon, and to provide a method for manufacturing the above activated carbon. <P>SOLUTION: In the manufacturing process of the activated carbon for adsorption of arsenic, a manganese compound and a bismuth compound are deposited on activated carbon by mixing the manganese compound and the bismuth compound with 1 to 50 weight ratio of the elements of manganese to bismuth, dissolving the mixture in nitric acid, impregnating activated carbon with the solution, and heat treating the activated carbon impregnated with nitric acid at 200°C to 600°C. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
