<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To align an image formed on an image carrier, e.g. a photosensitive drum, accurately with a position in the main scanning direction of a recording material. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 100 comprises a corona charger and an image processing section movable to an optional position in the main scanning direction of an image, a secondary transfer section 5b for transferring an image formed at a photosensitive drum 1 and an intermediate transfer belt 5 to a recording material P, a roller 91 for carrying the recording material to the secondary transfer section, a sensor 101 disposed near the secondary transfer section in order to detect the end part in the main scanning direction of a recording material being carried by the roller, a section for operating the average value of the end part position of a plurality of consecutive recording materials detected by means of the sensor, and a section for controlling the corona charger and the image processing section to adjust the image writing position in the main scanning direction for subsequent recording materials in accordance with the average end part position of the recording material calculated at the end part average value operating section. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
