PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a conductive polymer that can be used especially as a solid electrolyte in an electrolytic capacitor for the purpose of manufacturing a conductive layer and improves conductivity and quality as compared with those of a well-known polymer, for example poly (3,4-ethylenedioxy thiophene), especially with respect to better bonding and improved uniformity of residual salt. SOLUTION: Polythiophene has a repeated unit of formula (I). In the formula, A is an -alkoxy group, and is occasionally a C1 to C5-alkylene group that is substituted by a spacer L at optional points and may carry further substituents. L is a methylene group, and x is 0 or an integer of 1 or more, desirably 0 or an integer of 1 to 6, and especially desirably 0 or 1. R is H or C1 to C18-alkyl, C7 to C18-aralkyl, C5 to C14-aryl, or C5 to C12-cycloalkyl. They can be each non-substituted, or additionally substituted with SO3H, SO3-, COOH, or COO-.
