PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely detect the existence of a falsified document in a simple constitution. SOLUTION: An authenticator applies a specified arithmetic process to first image data read from a mentioned item column 511 of a document 501, and prints typing data based on digest information thus obtained in a certification column 512 on the document. The authenticator compares digest information obtained at verification by applying an arithmetic process to second image data read from the mentioned item column 511 on the document after printing the typing data with initial digest information based on third image data read from the certification column 512 on the document with the printed typing data, thereby deciding whether the document has been falsified or not based on the comparison result.
