PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of illuminating measuring instrument which uniformly illuminates a scale plate and which can variably change the color of the illumination of the plate at need. SOLUTION: An apparatus for illuminating measuring instrument includes the scale plate 2 having a display part on an upper surface, 2-8 cylindrical recesses 3a for light sources formed on a lower surface side of a transparent plate 3 arranged at the lower side of the plate 2 for guiding the illuminating light to the scale plate, three light emitting diodes 10a, 10b and 10c arranged for emitting blue, green and red colors to the plate 2 in the recesses 3a in such a manner that the three diodes 10a, 10b and 10c can individually regulate luminances by individual control circuits 20 to illuminate the scale plate by the various color illuminating lights.
