PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing base stock excellent in creep resistant characteristic and most suitable for an expansion type color selecting device, such as a shadow mask and an aperture grill adopting the expansion method, and a producing method for the device obtained by using the base stock. SOLUTION: In the method for producing the base stock for expansion type color selecting device for a color Braun tube applying hot- and cold-rolling to a material, the material has the chemical composition composed, by mass%, of 0.1-1.0% Mo, 0 to < 0.01% W, 0 to < 0.2% Cr, < 0.05% C and the balance substantially Fe, and the last finish-cold-rolling is made at a rolling ratio of≥50% , and after performing the last finish-cold-rolling, a heat treatment is not performed. Then, to the base stock for expansion type color selecting device obtained by the above producing method, electron beam passing-through holes or slits are formed by etching, and after expansion-fixing to a metal frame body, a blackening treatment is performed.
