PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transverse drive unit for loading/unloading a large vehicle by expansively moving a transverse driving section of an elevating space in order to store the large vehicle in the same space of a parking apparatus, and temporarily expanding the elevating space. SOLUTION: The parking apparatus 1 is comprised of a lift 2 for vertically moving the elevating space E, transverse moving trays 3 arranged in parking chambers X, Y adjacent ot the elevating space E, and transverse drive units 5 for transversely moving the transverse moving trays 3. Each transverse drive unit 5 allows a vehicle C having a long vehicle length to be elevated and parked by arranging a fixed roller body 4 in each of the parking chambers X, Y, and a movable roller body 6 in the elevating space E, and expanding the movable roller body 6 in a longitudinal direction of the elevating space E. The transverse moving tray 3 has just a length sufficient for loading of wheels of the vehicle, and therefore the short transverse tray 3 exhibits an effect of cutting manufacturing costs.
