<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a downlight in which temperature rise of the lighting circuit is reduced. <P>SOLUTION: The downlight comprises a socket 2 to which output of a lighting circuit substrate 1 such as an inverter is supplied, a fluorescent lamp 4 of which base side filled with amalgam is installed on this socket 2 and which is used in nearly horizontal posture, and a reflecting shade 7 which is formed with a hole 6 through which the bulb 5 of the fluorescent lamp 4 penetrates. A cover 8 for covering the base part and its vicinity of the fluorescent lamp 4 is provided outside of the reflecting shade 7.
