<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air cleaner capable of easily forming atmospheric discharge in the vicinity of a catalyst even in a dried-air state. <P>SOLUTION: In the air cleaner wherein a pair of electrodes 2 are provided in an air passage 1a, a catalyst body 3 is arranged between the electrodes 2 and discharge is generated by applying high voltage across the electrodes 2 and treated air is parsed through the catalyst body 3 to clean air, a material having moisture permeability is used in the catalyst carrier 3a of the catalyst body 3 by noticing that discharge becomes easy to generate even if the concentration of moisture in air, that is, the relative humidity between the electrodes 2 is kept high at the time of discharge. The humidity around the catalytic body 3 is made high by using the material with a high moisture absorbability in the catalyst carrier 3a of the catalyst body 3 to make it easy to generate discharge by utilizing moisture in air.
