PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To close an atmosphere flow channel certainly when an ink cartridge is not mounted in an ink jet recording apparatus to prevent the leak of ink or the evaporation of a solvent in the ink. SOLUTION: The ink cartridge 10 is equipped with ink housing parts 322 and 324 for holding the ink, atmosphere flow channels 30 and 40 for allowing the ink housing parts 322 and 324 to communicate with the atmosphere and the valve mechanisms provided in the atmosphere flow channels 30 and 40. Each of the valve mechanisms is equipped with the atmosphere valve member 70 for sealing the communication hole 26 provided to the partition wall for demarcating the ink housing part and the atmosphere in the direction going toward the atmosphere from the ink housing part. The atmosphere valve member 70 is equipped with a contact part 74 receiving the force from the outside going toward the ink housing part from the atmosphere to open the atmosphere flow channels 30 and 40.
