PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply switch an audio and storage functions by using a system in which a disk drive unit compatible with a MD system is added with a function as a storage device. SOLUTION: The operation mode of the disk drive unit is changed to a storage function state, when connected to a personal computer. When activating particular software on the personal computer, a trigger signal is transmitted from the software to the disk drive device. Based on the signal, the operation mode of the disk drive unit is changed to an audio function state. When the software is terminated on the personal computer, the trigger signal is transmitted from the software to the disk drive unit. Based on the signal, the operation mode of the disk drive unit is changed to the storage function state. The function of the disk drive unit can be switched by simply activating/terminating the particular software on the personal computer. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
