PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water treatment method capable of reducing BOD, COD, the concentration of zinc and the total amount of nitrogen in water to be treated even if special treatment facilities are not used and especially excellent in the reducing effect of BOD, and a water treatment apparatus suitably used in this treatment method. SOLUTION: In the water treatment method for reducing BOD, COD, the concentration of zinc and the total amount of nitrogen in water to be treated, the water to be treated is treated with chlorine and activated carbon successively and preferably treated while applying motion to activated carbon. The water treatment apparatus A is equipped with a drum shaft 3 as a rotary means for rotating a treatment tank 1 housing activated carbon 10 and a drive motor 4. By this water treatment method BOD, COD, the concentration of zinc and the total amount of nitrogen in water to be treated can be efficiently reduced even if a complicated or large-sized device is not used and, especially, BOD can be markedly reduced as compared with a conventional apparatus. In this water treatment apparatus, the water treatment method can be efficiently performed and activated carbon treatment can be more efficiently performed in another use. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
