Monitoring system for monitoring the security of network-based data transfer comprises a computer system (AS) for determination of whether data received from a network is safe or not. The computer system receives the data via a proxy server system (PROXY, FW, IDS) and analyses the data for viruses, etc. to ensure if fulfills safety and or security requirements. Independent claims are also included for the following:- (a) a data type checking system; (b) a data content checking system; (c) a data transfer checking system; (d) a control system for controlling monitoring of data transfer; (e) and methods and software for monitoring data transfer within a networked computer system.
