A object detector has a sensor-device (11) for ascertaining the distance and/or shape of objects and a processing device supplied with the output signals of the sensor-device. One sensor (10) detects the temperature of the detected object, in particular a thermal image of the detected object, and its output signals are supplied to the processing device which is designed so that the output data of the other sensor device (11) for ascertaining the distance and/or shape are correlated with the output data of the device (10) for detecting the temperature. An Independent claim is included for a method of detecting objects, especially for a vehicle.
