With an integrated circuit having several function blocks (10,11) each has a control input connected to a multiplexer (12,13). Each multiplexer has a data (16,17), a test and a changeover input, the latter to select between normal and test operation. Each multiplexer has a test register (18,19) with a serial data input connected to a serial bus (1,2,3) and which is connected to its test input. Control units (23,24) select the mode of operation for the function blocks according to instructions from mode of operation memory cells (22) in the registers.
