PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain laser tracking errors in the output power monitoring of a laser diode chip. SOLUTION: An optical monitor 15 is aligned so as to receive an optical output from the rear end surface of the laser diode 16. A pigtail fiber 14 formed with a lenslike fiber input end 30 is arranged away from the anterior end surface of the laser diode 16 so as to form a beam coupling region and is aligned in relation to a laser emitting cavity so as to receive a beam outputted to the fiber 14. While a second Fabry-Perot cavity is formed on the anterior end surface of the laser 16 together with the lenslike fiber input end, as a means for restraining the second Fabry-Perot cavity, for example, a duplex cone lens is formed in the apical end of the lenslike fiber input end 30.
