PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the drawback in an FEC (forward error connection) system that normal data transmission cannot be executed when the number of errors exceeds correction capability in a radio section because user data are outputted, regardless of whether the result of correction is corrected or not, although the number of errors generated in the data can be corrected, and the drawback in an ARQ (auto repeat request) system that a data transmission speed is remarkably reduced because the proportion occupied by re-transmission increases when an error rate of errros contained in the data reaches a predetermined value or more. SOLUTION: In a communication system, accurate and efficient data transmission is realized by employing both the FEC and ARQ systems as an error control system in the radio section, and by providing an automatic re-transmission control device provided with a means for calculating the frequency of generation of errors on a line and automatically varying the size of data to be transmitted.
