PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent diffusion of contamination in a liquid crystal. SOLUTION: A sealing material to separate the liquid crystal from the external region is formed between substrates disposed opposing to each other through the liquid crystal. The sealing material is formed as a ring-like pattern having no portion enclosing the liquid crystal. The display device has a first continuous columnar support which prevents the liquid crystal from contact with the sealing material and a second continuous columnar support which forms a passage with the first continuous columnar support where the liquid crystal flows through an opening formed in the first columnar support as the exit, both supports disposed between the substrates and inside of the above sealing material.
