PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating device which does not necessitate the direct application of a high voltage to a coating fluid and does not need any spray booth and to provide a coating method using the coating device. SOLUTION: The coating device is provided with a nozzle part that ejects the coating fluid to form liquid drops and a charging electrode that charges the liquid drops formed in the nozzle part to give them a positive or negative potential to the object to be coated with the coating fluid. The charging electrode is a plate electrode having formed therein openings through which the liquid drops formed in the nozzle part are passed. Each of the openings has an inside diameter 30 to below 1,000 times the aperture of the nozzle. The coating method comprises coating the substrate with the coating fluid by means of the coating device. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
