PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact hollow fiber membrane module having a good filtering capacity. SOLUTION: In the hollow fiber membrane module, a plurality of hollow fiber membrane bundles are housed in a vertically long case housing having a liquid entrance and exit and integrated at one or both ends thereof by an adhesive. The inner diameter of the case housing main body is not less than 400 mm, the filling area ratio of the hollow fiber membrane bundles to the lateral cross sectional area of the case housing main body is not less than 35% and the outer diameter of one hollow fiber membrane constituting the hollow fiber membrane bundles is 1.5 mm or less.
