The motor vehicle has an extendable rear bumper or fender (5,6) which can be extended to receive loads such as bicycles. The bumper is mounted on guide rails (7,8) attached to the vehicle, having at least one cantilever beam (10,11) on which the bumper is mounted. The beams are telescopically mounted on the guide rails. There is an expansion linkage (14) between the bumper and vehicle chassis.
