The circuit has a discontinuous current profile in a current branch between a rectifier bridge (1) and a load (3) connected via a charging capacitor to a power factor correction choke (4) and a diode (5) in series. An electronic power switch (7) connected between the choke and diode and a reference potential (6) is controlled by a control circuit (8) with a detection arrangement (9) for detecting a null value of a current. AN Independent claim is also included for the following: (a) a control method for a power factor correction circuit connected to an a.c. current network.
