摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an emission control device for reducing a quantity of sulfur component included in exhaust gas flowing out of a sulfur component hold-back agent even if a sulfur component holding quantity of the sulfur component hold-back agent increases. <P>SOLUTION: The sulfur component hold-back agent 61 for holding the sulfur component included in the flowing-in exhaust gas and an NOx hold-back agent 62 for holding NOx in the flowing-in exhaust gas are arranged in an exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine. NOx separating processing is performed for adjusting the air fuel ratio of the exhaust gas flowing in the sulfur component hold-back agent so that the air fuel ratio of the exhaust gas flowing in the NOx hold-back agent becomes almost the stoichiometric air fuel ratio or rich when separating NOx held in the NOx hold-back agent. Here, when the sulfur component holding quantity of the sulfur component hold-back agent is a prescribed quantity or more, the air fuel ratio of the exhaust gas flowing in the sulfur component hold-back agent is prohibited from becoming almost the stoichiometric air fuel ratio or rich. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
