PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform operation at a high cutting position in which a mowing unit is hung from a machine body and to ensure the cutting of grasses having a large plant length. SOLUTION: A mower is equipped with a self-propelled machine body 1, a mowing unit U having rotating blade bodies 13 rotating in a nearly horizontal plane in a housing 11 provided with a peripheral cover C for preventing stones from scattering and arranged oppositely to the ground surface under the machine body 1 and a lifting and lowering lever device D lifting and lowering the mowing unit U relatively to the machine body 1 and maintaining the height thereof in a hung state at a plurality of different positions. The mower has a front peripheral cover part C<SB>1</SB>of the peripheral cover C of the housing 11 of the mowing unit U connected with a hinge so as to be openable and closable relatively to the top board 12. The front peripheral cover part C<SB>1</SB>is composed so as to open associated with lifting and lowering operation of a lifting and lowering lever 31 of the lifting and lowering lever device D only at the high cutting position where the mowing unit U is kept in the hung state relatively to the machine body 1.
