PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a defective image caused by the load fluctuation of a transfer drum when a transfer drum cleaner is attached/detached to/from the transfer drum. SOLUTION: The residual toner on the surface of the transfer drum 6 is removed by bringing the transfer drum cleaner 20 in contact with the surface of the transfer drum 6. The moment the transfer drum cleaner 20 is brought into contact with (abutted on) the surface of the transfer drum 6, the transfer drum cleaner 20 is rotated in a direction shown by an arrow R20 so that the moving direction of an edge part 22a at the contact part S may agree with the moving direction of the surface of the transfer drum 6. Besides, the moving velocity v2 of the transfer drum cleaner 20 at that time is made higher than the moving velocity v1 of the surface of the transfer drum 6. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
