PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crane wire rope bracing device applicable to a wide range of cranes whether they are operated automatically or manually, while restraining the initial swaying of wire ropes without affecting crane cycles. SOLUTION: In a crane, a hoisting device is installed on a traversing truck 1 and the wire rope 7 is wound on sheaves 8, 12 which rotate only when the hoisting device is operated for hoisting up or down. A brake mechanism is formed including the sheaves 8, 12 connected to a sheave shaft 6, a brake disc 4 fastened to the sheave shaft 6, and a brake 3 secured to a sheave bearing bracket 2. On the basis of a control signal 20 of the hoisting device, braking is applied to the sheaves 8, 12 to the extent that slip will not occur between the sheaves 8, 12 and the wire rope, only at times other than when the hoisting device is operated for hoisting up or down. Further, the crane is provided with a hanging load meter. A plurality of brake mechanisms are provided to apply braking correspondingly to the actual value of the hanging load meter.
