PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position restoring device which easily and correctly restores a building which has been horizontally moved due to strong wind, etc. to an original position. SOLUTION: The position restoring device 1 has a taper cone 3, as a female body, which is embedded and fixed into foundation concrete 2, a male body 4 to be pressed into the taper cone 3, and a hydraulic cylinder 5 for pressing the male body 4. The taper cone 3 is shaped like a conical straw hat and set in the concrete such that an inner peripheral recessed taper face 3a faces upward and that a taper axis is vertically directed. When the building 7 is horizontally moved and remains in a moved position due to strong wind or an earthquake force applied thereto, the hydraulic cylinder 5 is activated to protrude its piston rod 5a, to thereby press the tip (lower edge) of the male body 4 to the taper face 3a. Thus the male body 4 tends to slide along the taper face 3a, and therefore the building 7 undergoes a horizontal component F of force, toward the center of the taper face 3a, whereby the position of the building 7 is restored.
