<p>A cell culture medium comprises cell culture ingredients suitable for the maintenance of eukaryotic cells, characterised by the inclusion. therein of a growth promoting amount of aloin, or more generally a compound of the formula: (I); wherein R<1> is a glycosylating moiety, or is H, alkyl, aryl, substituted alkyl, substituted aryl, alkoxy, alkoxyalkyl, alkylamine, formula(2); wherein R<5> is a single bond or is alkylene and R<6> is H, alkyl, substituted alkyl, NH2, OH or OR<7>',wherein R<7> is alkyl or substituted alkyl and each cf R<2>, R<3> and R<4> is alkyl, aryl, or substituted alkyl or aryl, cr carboxyalkyl, and n is 0 or 1, in the substantial absence cf the range of other compounds.</p> |
