The bilirubin oxidase is encoded in a gene capable of being hybridized with a gene encoding the above-described amino acid sequence under a stringent condition. A gene encoding the bilirubin oxidase. A recombinant expression plasmid containing the gene. A transformant containing the recombinant expression plasmid. A method for producing the bilirubin oxidase is characterized by culturing the transformant and then collecting the bilirubin oxidase from the culture product.
