<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide bilirubin oxidase having excellent heat resistance by a genetic engineering means. <P>SOLUTION: This bilirubin oxidase having good heat resistance and having a specific amino acid sequence wherein the 361-or 364-proline is replaced by any other amino acid. The bilirubin oxidase having the above-described amino acid sequence wherein one or more amino acids are deleted, replaced, added or inserted. The bilirubin oxidase having ≥70 % sequence homology with the above-described sequence. The bilirubin oxidase is encoded in a gene capable of being hybridized with a gene encoding the above-described amino acid sequence under a stringent condition. A gene encoding the bilirubin oxidase. A recombinant expression plasmid containing the gene. A transformant containing the recombinant expression plasmid. A method for producing the bilirubin oxidase is characterized by culturing the transformant and then collecting the bilirubin oxidase from the culture product.
