PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for summarizing a source text, a method for selecting a coordinate relationship for compression, a system for summarizing the source text, and a program.

SOLUTION: A text parser 110 receives a source text to be summarized as input, and segments the source text into talk units. A structure analysis engine 111 executes structural summarization of structure expression by removing the talk units considered to be not very important to the summarization. A coordinate compressor 112 compresses a coordinate relationship selected in the structure expression of the source text. The coordinate relationship is compressed by generalizing the talk units.
