PEDAL APPARATUS FOR AUTOMOBILE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pedal apparatus for an automobile manufacturable at a low cost and positively protecting a driver's lower limbs at the collision of a vehicle.

SOLUTION: This pedal apparatus for the automobile is provided with an adjusting lever 10 rotatably supported to a bracket 90 fixed to a vehicle body; a brake pedal supported to the adjusting lever rotatably around an axis parallel with the rotation axis of the adjusting lever to the bracket; and a locking member 20 supported to the bracket through a rod to lock the adjusting lever. The front end of the rod is extended close to a member which easily retreats at the collision of the vehicle, and the rod retreats pushed by the member. A wedge member 25 is fixed to the rod, and when the rod retreats pushed by the member, the wedge member wedges itself between an adjusting arm and the locking member to release the engagement of the locking member with the adjusting arm.
