PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To propose a porous metal structure suitable for reinforcing members made from a light metal alloy such as an aluminum alloy. SOLUTION: This porous metal structure has a figure comprising an inner layer with a single hole or several dispersed holes and the surface layer with the maximum wall thickness of 6 mm or less, formed of a mixed powder including a metallic powder, and further sintered; and has a portion except the holes, of which the porosity is 20-50%. The porous metal structure has preferably further a sintered compact having a porosity of more than 50% made of the metallic powder integrated with the hole. Thereby, the structure acquires lightness in weight, high strength, superior handlability, and further a superior property to be infiltrated. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
