PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a preform for a plastic optical fiber in which the process characteristics and physical properties of the preform are improved. SOLUTION: In the method of manufacturing the preform for the plastic optical fiber, reactants including a thermal polymerization initiator and a photopolymerization initiator are charged in a reactor, and then thermal polymerization and photopolymerization are simultaneously or alternately made to proceed under rotation of the reactor. Thereby the process characteristics and physical properties of the preform are improved compared with the case when both initiators are independently used. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
