PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption while securing display of minimum allowable quality at the time of standby in a liquid crystal display. SOLUTION: A voltage control part 6 generate a plurality of kinds of voltage for gradation display. A signal driving circuit 1 generates signal voltage with amplitude according to gradation specified by image data to be inputted via an interface circuit 7 by using the voltage for gradation display generated by the voltage control part and applies the signal voltage to a liquid crystal matrix panel 2. When the standby is instructed via the interface circuit 7, the voltage control part 6 makes a value of the voltage for gradation display to be generated small. In this display device, the amplitude of the signal voltage to be applied to the liquid crystal matrix panel 2 is made small, the power consumption is reduced and display of minimum allowable quality is secured at the time of standby.
