Fluid bed reactor for the treatment of effluent water arising from domestic and trade wastes introduces oxygen via venturi jet to coarse foam particle with pores

In a process to treat effluent water arising from trade or domestic sources, the water is surrendered to a treatment stage (11) in which a rotational motion (22) is set up by the venturi-jet (16) driven action of gaseous oxygen (17). The treatment process is a fluidized bed reactor incorporating coarse-grained foam particles (15) with a large inner surface and 30 to 40 pores per inch. The coarse grains (15) occupy 10 to 20% of the reactor (11) volume and bear a coating which provides a substrate bed for a colony of micro-organism. The reactor also incorporates a lower sedimentary zone (12) with a castellated retaining barrier.
