The vehicle seat has sensor(s) incorporated into the upholstery to register a seat occupant. The sensor has at least one longitudinal fiber of piezo-electric material with at least two spaced contacts so that an electrical field can be applied to the fiber and/or measured at it. Movement of a nonwoven bending unit through the weight of the seat occupant is registered by the sensor. The vehicle seat has at least one sensor (04) incorporated into openings (12) in the upholstery to register a seat occupant.. The sensor can be linked to an evaluation unit by electrical leads (05).
