Instead of a single microphone (2), two or more microphones are combined as a microphone array. Linked with appropriate electronic signal processing, this design offers greater directive efficiency towards a user's mouth. This achieves a better resistance to feedback in a loudspeaker (3) and more effective suppression of surrounding noises.
