PURPOSE: A symbol puncturing method is provided to allow for ease of determination on puncturing in an enhanced rate adaptation mode. CONSTITUTION: A symbol puncturing method comprises a first step(100) of applying the formula Kj-Jj+1=Zj to the puncturing determination condition jK mod J<K(wherein j=0 to J-1) of symbol group J(wherein J is the absolute value I/2) for encoding and decoding; and a second step(102 to 114) of determining whether to perform a symbol puncturing for the symbol group J by using the formula Kj-Jj+1=Zj. I is the number of information bits per frame including reserved bits and tail bits, k is the absolute value(L-N)/2, and j is the index value of the symbol group J.
