PURPOSE: A method for transmitting a short message of a mobile communication terminal is provided to set receiving numbers or originating numbers selected from a recent call list to telephone numbers of short message receivers, thereby enabling a user to write a short message only without inputting the receiving numbers. CONSTITUTION: If a user presses a recent call list button, a mobile communication terminal displays a recent call list on a display window(ST11,ST12). If the user selects one telephone number from the recent call list by using a directional button and presses a short message writing button, the mobile communication terminal displays the telephone number selected by the user as a telephone number of a short message receiver(ST13-ST16). If the user presses a send button after writing a short message, the mobile communication terminal transmits the short message to the short message receiver(ST17,ST18).
