A method of filling a gas cylinder 2 with a mixed gas including carbon dioxide, comprises the steps of partly filling the cylinder 2 with carbon dioxide, inverting the cylinder 2, and injecting a second gas component through the carbon dioxide to cause intimate mixing of the two gas components. This may take advantage of the fact that carbon dioxide is a relatively dense and heavy gas. The inversion step may take place before the introduction of the initial carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide may be provided in a gaseous, or liquid state. The second gas component may be nitrogen. The gas mix may go on to be used in packaging applications or for gas cylinders used for dispensing beer. |
