The machine for transferring panels (1a - 1c) moving in one direction (X) to another direction (Y) at right angles to it comprises a sliding bar (6) which pushes the panels in the new direction. The panels are lowered before the bar moves across and transport continues so that panels are stacked in an overlapping arrangement before being lowered. An Independent claim is included for a method for transferring panels moving in one direction to another direction at right angles to it.
