PURPOSE: A storing medium operating device for a song accompaniment system and a method thereof are provided to normally operate the song accompaniment system in spite of the malfunction of a storing medium by providing two storing medium for the alternative use in case of such malfunction. CONSTITUTION: A storing medium operating device for a song accompaniment system includes a first storing medium(310) having song data upgraded in real time by song data input via a communication unit, a second storing medium(320) having song data equal to the first medium, the song data being substituted by a uniform time period, a switching element for alternatively outputting the song data of the first or second medium in response to a control signal input from the outside, an image signal processing element(250) for outputting a guide message for the malfunction of the first or second medium to a screen in response to a control signal input from the outside, and a controller(400) for controlling the switching element to output the song data from the first medium in case of an initial driving and from the second medium in case of malfunction of the first medium and the image signal processing element for the guide message display.
